Seymour Duncan Hot for Tele, STL-2

From the manufacturer:

Hot true single-coil pickup with increased output. Great for country pop, rockabilly, blues, jam, and classic rock.

Imagine taking the Vintage models and turning up the output. You get a fat and full punch in both the low frequencies and mid-range, yet it retains the muscular twang of the Vintage. The sensitive coil combined with custom length flat pole pieces provides more sustain. The rhythm pickup has a similarly designed high-output coil for full, clear sound and comes with a chrome-plated brass cover.

complete setup
Available for both rhythm (neck) and lead (bridge) positions. Often used in the lead position and matched with a lower output rhythm pickup like the STR-1 Vintage.

For all well-balanced instruments. Works equally well with maple and rosewood fingerboards.

available mods
Lead version available tapped for dual output levels.

Lang Scott & Kent Wells / Reba McEntire, Dave Amato / REO Speedwagon, JR Richards / Dishwalla

Check out this demo of the screaming Seymour Duncan Hot for Tele STL-2 bridge pickup. Skip to 1:08 to hear the high-output single coil pickup in action, with its growling midrange and edgy bite. The STL-2 handles gain extremely well, producing a powerful lead tone with amazing presence and sustain. For anything from country and classic rock licks to full throttle tapping (1:25), you will get a hot lead tone that wails. Although it's a single coil, the thick midrange yields a rich fat crunch sound, similar to a humbucker - and you don't get the single coil squeal. Listen at 3:00 to hear full chords, sounding thick with plenty of midrange for a powerful rhythm sound. The STL-2 is an extremely versatile pickup with a great vintage-modern sound for all your tonal needs - from country and blues to classic rock, metal, and more.

The player is Lyle Watt and he is playing a Fender Telecaster through a Cornford Roadhouse 30 amp.

Here is a cover video of the classic Black Sabbath tune, "War Pigs." What's unique about this cover is the arrangement, showing off both the Seymour Duncan STL-2's Blues and classic rock capabilities. It's clear that this pickup has a very high-output, perfect for high-gain territory for both rhythm and lead applications. In this case, the player is primarily playing with a lead slide guitar tone, producing a Texas Blues sound that wails with sustain and bites aggressively. The lower chords are thick and have a guttural sound with plenty of drive. The midrange characteristic of this pickup allows it to easily cut through the mix, sounding round and full at all times. The STL-2 will take classic sounds and kick it up a notch, giving you a hot and dynamic tone that will never get old.
